Special Olympics skaters handed charity cash

Fundraising events to enable Meg McFarlane and Callum Mills to compete at the games in Graz, Austria in March, have been held over the last six months with skaters wearing their pyjamas to training, raffles and more.

Meg and Callum have been selected to represent Great Britain as part of a team of ten figure skaters and 11 skiers.

Meg McFarlane, 13, has a heart condition and Down’s Syndrome. Since 2013 she has competed in the Special Olympics at Dumfries in Scotland, Austria, Finland, Iceland and Glasgow achieving two gold medals, four silver and two bronze.

Callum Mills, 18, has CHARGE Syndrome, autism, Pierre Robin Syndrome and is also deaf. Callum achieved third place for free skate in Finland in 2015. Competing in Glasgow in both 2015 and 2016, Callum achieved gold again in the free skate disciplines. Callum achieved second place in pairs skating also held in Glasgow in 2016.
