TEENAGERS in Somercotes will be encouraged to develop their music and dance skills at a new series of ‘Safe Rave’ community events supported by Derbyshire County Council.
The authority approved £25,000 to allow Belper’s ‘Drop Inn’ project team to help local communities develop their own events to nurture talent and reduce anti-social behaviour.
A ‘safe rave’ or ‘safe event’ could be any activity for young people with a music theme such as street dance, forming a band or DJ-ing skills. The funding is set to allow the Drop Inn team to train 40 young people with skills including health and safety as well as drug and alcohol awareness.
Councillors say that the project will help communities develop their own projects by guiding them through the initial development process.
