SNOW WATCH: Friday 22nd March - School closures in Mansfield and Ashfield. Updated 9.50am.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning with the temperature set to fall below zero in Mansfield during the night.

Snowy conditions have affected roads in the district with several main routes proving hazardous.

The following schools have reported that they will be closed or have altered opening arrangements.

All Saints’ Catholic School, Mansfield - School is closed. Students should access work on the school’s VLE.

Bracken Hill School, Kirkby in Ashfield - Due to potential transport issues caused by the snow and the prediction that

it will continue all day, Bracken Hill School will be closed today, Friday, 22 March 2013 to both staff and pupils.

Brierley Forest Primary and Nursery School, Sutton-in-Ashfield

The Dukeries Academy, Newark - Due to the current weather conditions and forecast for the rest of the day the Principal of The Dukeries Academy has decided for safety reasons to close the Academy today. All pupils and all staff should not travel to the Academy today. Please use ourwebsite for updates.

Eastlands Junior School, Mansfield - School will be closed today to staff and pupils due to the amount of snow that has fallen already and the poor weather conditions which have been forecast for the rest of the day. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and aim to reopen as soon as possible.

Forest Town Primary School, Mansfield - Please note that school will be closed today, Friday 22nd March, for all staff and pupils due to concerns about site safety and the forecast for extreme weather conditions throughout the day. Our apologies to all.

Fountaindale Special School, Mansfield - Due to heavy snow and the risk to transport Fountaindale School will be closed to all pupils and staff for today, Friday. Parents are asked to contact their child’s transport to inform them.

John Davies Primary School and Nursery, Huthwaite - Due the extreme weather conditions (now and forecast for the rest of the day) and the fact they we can not get emergency services up Barker Street, John Davies Primary will be closed today. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Kimberley Primary & Nursery School, Kimberley - School is open for children who’s parents cannot find alternative provision. School will be run by those staff who can get to and from work safely.

King Edward Primary School and Nursery, Mansfield - Will be closed today due to the snow and the forecast for more significant snowfall through the day. Y5 pupils should still go to Brunts as planned. A text will be sent to Y5 if this changes. Staff need not attend.

Kirkby College, Kirkby-in-Ashfield

Landmarks Specialist College, Creswell - Will be closed to learners today due to snowfall and further heavy snow is forecast throughout the day. Staff should attend between 10.00 and 14.00 for site clearance and animal care duties.
