Slimmer goes from sad bridesmaid to happy bride-to-be

A mum from Mansfield Woodhouse knew she had to start losing weight when she saw wedding photos of herself as a bridesmaid.

Now, determined Claire Trewick, who transformed her life by losing two stone, is using her success to forge a new career and is looking forward to her own wedding in tip-top shape.

Claire joined Slimming World two years ago and dropped from 12st 1lb to 9st 13lb inside eight months. She went on to train as a consultant for the organisation and is ready to open her own class at Kingsway Hall in Forest Town on Wednesday, May 30, hoping to help others achieve their weight-loss dreams too.

“I decided to lose weight after feeling unhappy and uncomfortable in comparison to the other bridesmaids,” said Claire, who works as a part-time administrator.

“When I saw the wedding photos, I knew I had to do something, so I looked up Slimming World groups in my area. I went along, feeling really nervous and thinking I wouldn’t be able to stick to it.

“But the group and the consultant were really friendly and I lost 5lb in my first week. I have maintained my target weight for nearly two years.

“I recently got engaged and I know that I will feel body-confident on my own wedding day, not sad as I did as a bridesmaid.”

Claire stressed that slimming did not necessarily mean going hungry. She added: “I couldn’t believe how much food I was allowed to eat. I never felt like I was on a diet.

“The eating plan encouraged me to eat lots of tasty, filling foods, such as pasta, rice, potatoes and lean meat and fish. No foods were banned, and I couldn’t believe I’d found a way to lose weight without starving myself.”

MUM-of-two Claire promises that those who go along to her slimming classes will be given all the backing they need.

She said: “Everyone inspired and supported me to achieve my target and now it’s my turn to do the same for other people. To show the same kindness, warmth and compassion that I was shown.

“Support is the most important thing, along with encouragement and fun. It all starts with the feeling that you’re not alone. As someone who has lost weight myself, I know the challenges people can face. We will set targets and share recipes and ideas, working together.”
