SLIDESHOW: Students celebrate top marks on GCSE results day

It was day for celebrations and in some cases commiserations as the GCSE results were announced.

Thousands of students could be seen nervously tearing at the envelope to finally uncover the grades they had waited all summer for.

And at most schools in the region, the percentage of passes meant for most it was a moment to saviour.
