There were tears of triumph and despair shed in sixth-form blocks around the region today as A-level results were finally released.

The agonising summer wait for teenagers was finally over as they found out if they made the grade to get into their chosen universities.

Some began the long process of finding a university through clearing, but with record numbers of places being offered at universities, for many it was a joyous occasion and a relief to finally see where their future lies.

At All Saints’ CAhtolic Voluntary Academy in Mansfield, almost a third of the grades were either A* or A.

The overall pass rate at A*-E is 99.2 per cent, which was above national average.

Head of sixth-form, Rachel Davie said: “I am so proud of all of our students, they have exceeded our expectations and their results are a reflection of the hard work of staff, students and parents.

“To achieve such good results once again is a phenomenal achievement.

Meanwhile, at Ollerton’s Dukeries Academy, 40.4 per cent of students gained an A* to B, four per cent up on last year, while A*-C grades also rose by by more than four per cent to 67.9 per cent.

Principal, Ian Barton, said “This year’s results are a culmination of all the fantastic hard work put in by both pupils and staff, and we are delighted with all that they have achieved.

“The academy has worked diligently on raising high expectations, with a focus on preparing pupils for their future, and we wish pupils all the luck in their chosen path.”
