STAFF and pupils at St Andrew’s Primary School at Skegby are celebrating after a number of sporting achievements.
Last week, the school’s tag rugby team played at the Nottinghamshire County Finals, organised by England Rugby, at Mapperley in Nottingham after beating other schools from around Ashfield in the heats.
The school’s indoor cricket team also enjoyed success at County Championships, which was held at the world-famous Trent Bridge.
The team, who played where the professional cricketers train, finished in fifth place and during their visit, they got to see go into the stands and see cricketers playing on the pitch.
Now the school’s outdoor cricket team is hoping to enjoy similar success at the district finals at Mansfield Hosiery Mills Sports and Social Club next month.
Describing the pupils’ recent success and their up-coming cricket tournament, PE co-ordinator Nathan Stone said: “They have played really well. We are hoping to get through to the Outdoor County finals like we did last year.”
Meanwhile, earlier this year youngsters from the school took part in a boccia match at Sutton’s Lammas Centre.
The tournament was organised by Ashfield Sports Partnership and the team managed to come out on top.
Mr Stone added: “There was just three children and they were playing against some older children.”
