Six vehicles involved in M1 crash near Mansfield and Chesterfield

The M1 southbound was closed for around two hours and traffic diverted after the incident at 6.30pm between J30-29a yesterday (Sunday January 26).

This video shows a car stationary in lane 4 just minutes before the crash.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said a Ford Fiesta broke down in lane four and a Honda Civic tried to avoid it and hit the concrete central barrier .

A BMW tried to avoid the crash and was in collision with a Volvo. A Mercedes sprinter van was also involved.

According to Derbyshire Fire services the incident involved six vehicles with five people requiring treatment by ambulance services.

Four people were taken to hospital and treated for what were described as minor injuries

Firefighters from Chesterfield and Bolsover attended the incident and police made the vehicles and scene safe.
