SHIREBROOK: Stubbin Wood School invites past and present staff and pupils to official opening

Stubbin Wood School is looking for anyone who attended the school to go along to the opening on 8th November at 10am.

The school moved into its new building on Common Lane after nearly 30 years at its previous site in Burlington Avenue, Langwith.

Ann Western, leader of Derbyshire County Council, will perform the official opening of the school, which will also include the burying of a time capsule, filled with school memorabilia and every day items in order to tell future generations about who attended the school and what life in 2013 was like.

Lee Floyd, head teacher, said: “Our official opening event will be a very proud occasion, but we are very keen that we share it with the people who have been a part of our school community down the years.

“Pupils are currently pulling together all the items that they want to place inside the capsule.”

The school shares its new building with Shirebrook Academy and has a host of state-of-the-art facilities, including two sensory rooms, a living skills area and a £1.2m pool.

The facilities offer its 150 pupils, who have an autistic spectrum disorder or moderate, severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, therapy alongside their lessons. The school’s old building will be demolished.
