A New Year’s day baby has been named after a King’s Mill consultant who helped save the life of the parents’ older child.
Rebekah Guy was born on 1st January and her proud parents Sharon and Simon Guy chose the name after Dr Rebecca Sand saved the life of Rebekah’s older brother, Dylan.
He was born prematurely at just 24 weeks and had difficulties breathing.
Sharon (29), of Primula Close, Shirebrook, said: “Rebecca was just fantastic, she did everything she could to get Dylan to breathe.
“We didn’t know if he was going to make it. It was very scary. But somehow he kept fighting. But she saved his life.”
Since he was born in 2011 he has had heart surgery and contracted meningitis - but has fought through it all.
She added Dylan, who is now 3, is doing much better.
She said: “He is much better now but is delayed in some areas.
“But to show just how grateful we are to Rebecca we wanted to name our newborn after her.”
Sharon and Simon, thanked all staff at the hospital for their help.
