A boozed-up man who attacked his partner after she woke him has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Dale Stevenson, 28, attacked his partner at her home in Shirebrook, according to Chesterfield magistrates’ court.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said the defendant has had problems with drugs and he has become paranoid. The court heard how Stevenson’s partner found him asleep after she had prepared Sunday lunch with friends.

Mrs Allsop added that when she tried to wake him they began arguing and he grabbed her in the bathroom by the back of her neck and shoved her into a door and pushed her to the floor.

Stevenson, of Alder Way, Shirebrook, told police he had been drinking and can become aggressive if woken. He pleaded guilty to the assault from October 25. He also admitted breaching a bail condition. Magistrates sentenced Stevenson this month to six weeks of custody suspended for 18 months. He must pay £315 in costs and charges.
