Shirebrook man punches through a pub window

Jason Ellis punched straight through a pub window after becoming upset when he was asked to leave.

Ellis of Park Avenue pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, to recklessly destroying a glass window at the Wheatsheaf pub on Stockwell Gate.

The court heard that Ellis, 28 was asked to leave the pub after he became a nuisance to customers on the evening of 14th May.

Staff at the pub heard him shouting in the street outside followed by the sound of breaking glass downstairs.

When they went outside they saw the window had been smashed and Ellis had blood on both his hands.

The incident was captured on CCTV.

Ellis admitted causing the damage.

He told police he had been asked to leave the pub, but although he had been drunk, he felt he not done anything wrong.

He said he had been out with friends around Mansfield and had ended up in the Wheatsheaf.

After the landlady Julie Wilson had asked him to leave, he went outside and flicked the window, never expecting it to smash.

He said he regretted his actions and accepted that when someone is in drink they might think their behaviour was OK.

But others had perceived his behaviour to be worse than he thought it was.

Ellis was given a community order with a curfew for one month from 7pm-7am.

He was fined £110, with a victim surcharge of £60.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £291.50 to Julie Wilson to repair the damage caused to the window.
