Sherwood MP to hold talks on Rainworth flooding

Flood fears are on the agenda for a meeting in Rainworth next month organised by MP Mark Spencer.

The Sherwood representative is keen to resolve the ongoing confusion over which authority is responsible when properties are damaged.

Rainworth often suffers after downpours, although work was recently finished on a £250,000 scheme to alleviate the issue.

Mr Spencer intends to bring representatives in from Newark and Sherwood District Council, Severn Trent Water, the Environment Agency, Highways Agency, Gedling Borough Council and insurance services to help give people an understanding of who residents should turn to when disaster strikes.

He said: “I have, for some time, helped those trying to establish which authority is responsible and who can assist. Many of my constituents have had their lives turned upside down by flooding.

“There are things they can do to help themselves, but it is often difficult for people to contact all the right people, so I have collected all the right people in one room so members of the public can come and engage with them and gain valuable advice.”

The meeting will be held in the village hall on Kirklington Road on Saturday, 16th November, from 1-3pm, with anyone welcome to attend.
