Selston residents urged to have their say on new homes plan

SELSTON residents are being urged to have their say on plans to create a new street of 30 homes in the village.

Westerman Homes wants to build the properties between Victoria Street and Upper Mexborough Road as part of a drive to create energy efficient homes in the area.

If given the go-ahead, the development would include a range of three and four bedroom houses, two-bedroom bungalows and maisonettes, starter homes and seven affordable three-bedroom homes.

Now Westerman Homes wants to find out what people think before a planning application is submitted later this summer.

Technical manager Andrew Baldwin said: “Selston was a traditional mining town so much of the housing dates from that era.

“Modern, energy efficient homes, with off-street parking and good gardens are in short supply. Our plan would go some way to providing what people are struggling to find.

“Following extensive consultation, we now believe we have a good, achievable design and layout.”

And planning consultant John Holmes said: “Our population is growing and not nearly enough homes are being built.

“Unless we reverse this trend, we’re heading for a severe housing crisis.
