Selston man caught with amphetamine by police

A SELSTON man was caught with amphetamine after police allegedly witnessed a drug deal.

Officers saw Fiat Punto driver Dean Hunt receive a package outside Macdonalds in Somercotes after midnight.

Nothing was recovered during a search of his car, but 1.3g of amphetamine was found on the ground near where he was standing.

“He was taken to the police station and he made no comment in interview,” Becky Mahon, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates.

Hunt (40) of Crescent Road admitted possessing amphetamine last 22nd April and was fined £88, with £85 costs.

The court heard he committed a similar offence in 2007 and was locked up for an offence not related to drugs the following year.

“He says he is a recreational user of amphetamine, not a dependant user, and he bought the drugs for his own use,” said Annette Thomas, for Hunt.

Hunt appeared with three defendants linked to the same incident - Damon Kerry (33), of Nottingham Road, Alfreton; Jason Kerry (41), of High Street, Heanor; and Kathleen Ward (26_, of Fletcher Street, Heanor.

Jason Kerry and Ward denied charges of possessing amphetamine and mephredrone with intent to supply, supplying amphetamine and possessing methoxetamine. Damon Kerry entered no pleas.

All three defendants were committed for trial at Nottingham Crown Court on 11th June.
