The events were made possible by a team of residents who pulled together to fundraiser for the lights, after council funding was reduced.

At the Co-op, children from schools in Selston sang touching carols, conducted by Rev. Canon Fiona Shouler.

The new lighting display was switched on by Councillor Sam Wilson and has been declared 'the best display Selston has ever had'.

Later on in the evening, the lights at the old council offices were switched on by Eric, the elf on the shelf. There were also stalls, fairground rides, ponies dressed as unicorns and Micky and Minnie Mouse even attended. Santa took time out of his busy schedule to give out chocolates to anyone that visited him.

Emma Olden, from Selston Sarnies said: " The Selston Christmas Team and YouthTogether have been fundraising all year to give Selston the best display they have ever had and going by everyone’s comments on the night and on social media we definitely pulled it off.

Fun Timez mascots also kindly donated the mascots who appeared on the night.

Emma and the Selston Christmas Team have been organising the events and lights since February.

The lights and events were funded by kind-hearted members of the community donating clothes to Selston Sarnis, which Emma then sold, and saved the money so that the event could be free for all who attended.
