Seaside mural helps raise charity cash

Kirkby resident Sheila Boult put her artistic skills to use for a good cause by holding a charity open day to show off the magnificent seaside mural she has painted in her garden.

Sheila said that the idea for creating the mural came purely because she wanted to make a bare garage wall a bit more colourful. She was helped with the painting by friend Joan Hayes-Bradley and then another friend suggested they raised some money for charity by opening the garden to friends, neighbours and acquaintances.

Sheila made cups of tea and hotdogs for visitors and raised £117 on the day, plus £50 online, which is all going to Maggie’s cancer care centre at the City Hospital, Nottingham.

She said: “I would like to thank everyone that came and made it a success with their generosity. And not forgetting my local Morrisons and Boyes for their support and their gifts of vouchers for the raffle prizes. The weather was very kind to us and I couldn’t have picked a better day.”
