Seamstresses make sundresses for little girls

A group which supports women throughout the world has made more than 160 sundresses for girls living in poverty.

Soroptimist International Mansfield and District, celebrates providing the clothes to girls in Sierra Leone.

The project started in November 2015, and has dramatically exceeded the original idea of making 40 dresses to occupy members of the Club with a sewing machine.

Appeals by member Pam Chadwick on Facebook and Streetwise were met with a fantastic response with offers of fabrics and enthusiastic sewers, resulting in the original total quadrupling.

To show their appreciation to the lovely ladies,(Julia, Camilla and Helen), Pam and Rita, members of S.I. Mansfield, invited them to afternoon tea, and displayed as many of the garments as they could on the washing line in the garden.

Thanks also went to ‘Team Tots’ and Bracton interiors for fabric donations for the project, which was organised in partnership with the Dress a Girl around the World charity.

Some offers to continue making the dresses have been gratefully received and members will probably re start in late Autumn. Pam and Rita are due to speak to a Brownie meeting about the project.
