Schoolchildren help plant park flowers boost

Pupils from Leas Park Primary School, Robin Hood Primary School and 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Beaver Kits visited the Park through the day.

They learned about the Park and how the Friends Group is working in partnership with Mansfield District Council to make improvements.

Corinna Brown, vice -chairman of the Friends Group, said: “It has been really exciting to bring groups of children to the Park to take part in this experience.

“Hopefully they will come back and see the meadow when it is in full bloom, as it will be a stunning sight.

“We cannot thank our funders Veolia and Boots enough for giving us this opportunity to create the meadow, as part of our celebrations for the 100th birthday of the Park”

Yeoman Hill Park was given to the people of Mansfield Woodhouse by the 6th Duke of Portland 100 years ago.

Both schools have provided copies of the photographs taken on the day to enter the Friend’s Photo Competition.

Corinna added: “It was great that these two school chose to take this opportunity to enter our photo competition.

The Park is owned and managed by the council, whose Parks’ team works closely with the Friends group to care for and develop the park.

The children enjoyed sowing the meadow seed that will create a lovely show of wildflowers through the summer, just in time for the Mansfield Woodhouse summer event on the 21st June.

Friends of Yeoman Hill Park secured funding from Veolia and Boots UK to help them deliver this wildflower meadow project as part of their centenary celebrations.

The schools also took some wildflower seed to create a mini meadow on their own school sites. This seed was provided by West Notts. College, who are very supportive of the Friends Group and what they are trying to achieve this year.
