School to open doors for last time

Brierley Forest Primary School is inviting former staffand pupils to mark the end of an era before the bulldozers move in ahead of new school buildings being completed.

The school on Westbourne View, Sutton (formerly Carsic Infant and Junior School), is hosting an open afternoon on Monday June 27 from 2pm to 4pm.

As part of the Priority Schools building project, a new two-storey school is being built on the site, which is due to be completed by September 2016. At which time, the former infant and junior buildings will be demolished.

Head teacher Susan Grady said: “This is an exciting time for the children and staff at Brierley Forest, as we have watched the progress daily of the building of the new school. But at the same time, we are also sad to leave the old school behind.

“We are aware that many of our pupils and staff, both past and present, have lots of memories from the school so we are opening it up to the public for one last look.”

On display in the school will be school admission books, old photographs and plans of the new and old buildings. There will also be a chance to sample some of the all-time favourite school puddings of cornflake or butterscotch tart.

The school is also keen to find out what past pupils are doing now. Former students include a multi-award BAFTA winner and an international pyro-technician and lighting designer working on projects including Britain’s Got Talent.
