The Flying High Academy, which is on the Ladybrook Estate, has been named the top school in the county for progress and also as high as 11th in the entire country, out of 20,840 schools in total.

“We are thrilled with this result,” said head teacher Tony Warsop. “The staff and pupils work so hard and can be very proud of their achievements.

“This school is a beacon of learning that the community can be proud of. We have shown what can be done when everyone is reaching for the same goals.”

KS2 is the term for the four years of schooling for youngsters aged seven to 11. The latest league tables also show that the Flying High Trust, which runs the school, is the highest performing multi-academy Trust in the county and fourth in the country.

Head of school, Caroline Armstrong, said: “Our progress reflects the unstinting enthusiasm pupils show in their learning, and is testament to the support of their families and the community. Every bit of help they have given has helped us to reach this outstanding result.”

AS well as staff, year-six pupils at the Flying High Academy celebrated its lofty ranking in the KS2 league tables, and felt it was richly deserved.
