Nottinghamshire registrars have a carried out 46 same sex marriages since the change in law in March.

In line with the national trend, more women in same sex relationships have taken advantage of the change locally as 32 of the couples who tied the knot were female compared to 14 male couples.

Same sex couples in a civil partnership can convert this to a marriage at a Council register office or approved premise from 10th December this year.

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “Many of the same sex couples we have married so far booked up well in advance of the change in law and we have a further 27 booked up after August.

“Couples can choose to have their ceremony at one of our register offices or at one of our approved venues in the county, which include a pumping station, stately homes, hotels and even a sports stadium.

“We work with couples to make sure their ceremony is special and unique to them and look forward to being able to offer ceremonies for couples wanting to convert their civil partnership into a marriage.”
