Sam, 10, raises hundreds of pounds for typhoon hit Philippines

Sam Burrows 10 of Mansfield, held a coffee morning at his house to raise moey for the Phillipines and has raised over £400.

After seeing the devastation on TV caused by 200mph winds and rain on the small island earlier this month, Sam Burrows decided to help in any way he could.

The 10-year-old of Chatsworth Drive, rallied round his neighbours to hold one big charity coffee morning.

Proud mum, Kathy Burrows, said: “He has done so well, after seeing the impact of what had happened in the Philippines and seeing all the families struggling for food and water, Sam had this idea to get the street together for one big coffee morning.”

The St Peter’s C of E Nursery and Primary School pupil, with the help of the residents on Chatsworth Drive, raised a total of £412 to donate vital food, water and clothing to survivors of the typhoon devastated island. It is predicted that typhoon Haiyan killed more than 3,600 people.

Kathy added: “Sam was inspired by the recent Macmillan coffee mornings. He only wanted to raise £60 but all the neighbours got together and gave generously. It was also really nice because some of them had lived on the street for 28 years but had not met one another.” The coffee morning was held on 16th November.
