A POLICE investigation has been launched after safety surfaces were stolen from playgrounds in Selston and Underwood.

Panels of rubber flooring have been taken from three playgrounds in the two neighbouring villages over the last four weeks.

The first theft happened at a playground in Columbia Close, Selston, sometime between 16th and 17th January.

Flooring was also taken from Woodnook Recreation Ground, in Nottingham Road, Selston, also thought to be sometime between 16th and 17th January.

The third theft occurred at Underwood Hill Playground, in Main Road, Underwood, sometime between Monday 7th and 14th February.

The damage will cost Selston Parish Council in excess of £2,000 to repair.

The affected playground facilities have had to be cordoned off by the council due to safety reasons and it’s not thought they will be reopened until the flooring is replaced,

Dave Derby, Chairman of Selston Parish Council said: “We have had to close off the playground equipment after the safety flooring was taken by the callous thieves.

“This means that local children are missing out as they are not able to use all of the play equipment.

“I would urge anyone with information to contact Nottinghamshire Police.”

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the theft or saw anyone acting suspiciously around the playgrounds.

Anyone with information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 0300 300 99 99 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
