Russian businessman's Mansfield Woodhouse war memorial plans given green light

Warsop-based Vladimir Vinogradov, from arts management firm Russian Beat, has submitted the plans to erect a World War Two memorial monument in Yeoman Hill Park to “remember all who died in the War”.

The scheme, granted conditional permission by planning authority Mansfield District Council this week, will now see the memorial installed in the south-east of the park, on Church Hill.

Initial plans suggest a granite stone memorial, measuring three feet high and two feet wide, engraved with “In memory of all those who died in World War Two 1939-1945. Russian Beat.”

The park, on Priory Road, is already home to a First World War memorial inscribed on the four sides France, Belgium, Gallipoli and Italy.

Mr Vinogradov initially wanted the memorial to be in Mansfield’s Carr Bank Park.

However, following advice from council planning officers, he withdrew the plan in favour of the Yeoman Hill Park.

Conditions with the permission include that it must be built within three years from permission and it should be “undertaken in accordance with the approved plans”.

Mr Vinogradov said he was unable to comment as he has not yet received written confirmation on the decision from the council.
