However, although the Ford is safe for now, the AA has warned motorists not to take risks with flood water.

A spokesman for the AA said: "There has been sporadic flooding across the UK, and people do take the risk driving into flood water.

"If water gets in your engine it will be written off.

"If there is flood water on the road, it's not worth the risk as it's difficult to judge the depth.

"Motorists should be especially careful when passing under bridges as the road dips to allow high vehicles to access it.

"Floods under bridges are a lot deeper than they seem.

"It's just not worth the risk - it will end up costing a lot less to find an alternative route than to write your engine off."
