RSPCA launch investigation after puppy 'left for dead' in Blidworth bush

The male bulldog was found shivering and weak by a member of the public on Ricket Lane at around 3.30pm on Sunday, September 30.

The dog was only a puppy, aged around one year old, and was found in an abnormally thin condition.

It was too weak to stand up, had a severe case of mange, an eye condition and a prolapsed penis.

The person who found the dog contacted the RSPCA and nursed it until an inspector from the animal welfare charity came to collect it from the Blidworth road.

He was rushed to an emergency vets but because of his terrible condition the vet decided the dog was suffering so much he had no choice but to put him to sleep.

Inspector David McAdam, who is investigating the case, said: “This was a despicable act.

“The poor dog was left in the middle of nowhere in such a state and was totally helpless and defenceless.

“His condition was nothing short of appalling and the vet said he had been in a suffering state for at least two months.

“He was unable to stand up he was so weak. He had a chronic skin condition and was severely underweight, had cherry eyes - where the eyelid swells up - and a prolapsed penis caused by infection.

“It is so upsetting to think of the pain he must have endured during those months which was completely unnecessary.

“There is never an excuse to dump an animal - the RSPCA is always available for help and advice.

“I am just grateful that a kind member of the public found the dog and showed him some compassion in his last hours.”
