A true community spirit was celebrated at Edwinstowe Parish Church when the new standard of sub-branch of the Royal British Legion was dedicated.

Local resident and member, Dot Mellors, set out to raise the £700 required to purchase the new standard, which was raised quickly through donations from individuals as well as local councillors.

Many people have also supported the branch by attending a coffee morning as well as making cakes and items to sell at the coffee morning and providing cakes for the refreshments following the dedication.

Curate Louise Holliday led the service, which was also attended by the chairman of the county council, Coun Pauline Allan and the chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Coun Rita Crowe and members of both the Royal British

Legion from Warsop, Meden Vale and the district branch.

Edwinstowe’s sub-branch is hoping to return to full-branch status and is wanting new members. Contact Phil Jones on 01623 824787 for more details.
