At a meeting of the full council on Thursday Independent councillor Tom Hollis said council leader Cheryl Butler had alluded to the logo not cost the authority anything, but he had a breakdown of costs totalling £453.42.

Coun Hollis said; “Why didn’t she tell the truth about these changes?” He added: “Wasting any money during this time of fiscal restraint shows complete disregard for the residents of Ashfield.”

Councillor Butler said: I didn’t say it cost nothing, I said it didn’t cost us anything from an outside company and saved thousands. The two logos were designed in house with support from the county council’s graphic designers as we are unable to afford our own dedicated graphics team due to a lack of government funding.

“The cost was £368.76. This is made up of £250 from the county council £118.76 from our IT officer and zero from our graduate trainee. Any physical changes will only happen when new livery or uniforms are needed.”

One damaged vehicle had been repainted costing £84.66. She added: “With the council’s new commercial strategy we needed a new logo to create a fresh, modern feel.”
