Rotary support Portland’s quest for £2million sports complex

Hucknall Rotary Club have an association with Portland College which stretches back over 20 years.

This includes what was described as “the greatest sporting achievement in Portland’s history,” when a team of students from Portland College, representing Hucknall Rotary Club, won the National Rotary Disabled Sports Team Championships in November 2012.

Hucknall Rotarians also sponsor Portland College’s Sports Person of the Year Award. When club members learnt of the challenge facing Portland College to raise £2million to fund a newly-built sports complex, they invited along fundraisers Tracey Horton and Andrea Hudson to share the dream.

Tracey and Andrea described how the college were planning to construct a state-of-the-art centre of excellence for disability sports, from all levels starting right at grassroots up to elite level competitors.

Club President Ian Young said: “As a club we have had a long relationship with Portland College and have encouraged and supported disability sports at Portland for over 20 years.

“Plans to develop a centre-of-excellence have our full backing and we would recommend as many people as possible to support such a worthy cause.

“We shall certainly be planning fundraising activities for this great project.”
