Sutton Rotary Club has thanked the public for its support after holding two successful collections during this festive period.
Nearly 40 boxes of food havebeen collected for the foodbank at St Mary Magdalene Church, while dozens of children visited Santa on the Rotary sleigh in Asda.
Rotarian Phil Bustin described the foodbank collection as ‘exceptional’.
“It’s been tremendous and come from all directions - school, Scouts, everywhere,” he said. “We are very, very grateful and would like to say thank you very, very much to the people of Sutton who have supported it.”
The food, which was donated by shoppers at Asda, has been taken to St Mary’s and will be distributed to people who have been referred to the foodbank.
The Rotary Club’s sleigh also parked up at the supermarket, giving children the chance to meet Santa, who was also giving out sweets kindly donated by Asda.
A collection for the Rotary was held which Phil said was ‘well worthwhile’ as it too had been well supported by the public.
