Members will discuss the far-reaching proposal for 900 new homes and industrial units on the Rolls-Royce site off Watnall Road.

The meeting will be held in the council chamber on Urban Road, Kirkby, next Wednesday, 19th March, at 6.30 pm.

At this week’s meeting of Hucknall’s Reach Out residents’ group, chairman Sally Wyatt said: “The scheme will have a major impact on the local community.

“If the chamber is packed with Hucknall residents, the committee will realise how strongly people of the town think about it,” said Sally. “I hope people will prepare to car-share so as to ensure a big turnout at the meeting.”

Reach Out have formed a sub-group to look into the plans and have held consultations with Rolls-Royce and development company MUSE. A representative of Reach Out will speak at the meeting.

The proposed new homes would comprise 31.2 hectares, with 27.8 hectares for the industrial units.

The scheme also includes a primary school with 210 places, which would cost £3.5m, and a roundabout on the bypass for a new site entrance.
