A football tournament has been organised for the second year running in memory of Craig Dowhan who was killed in a car accident in March 2014.

As a fitting tribute, his family and friends decided to hold a charity football day in his honour at the Rolls Royce Leisure Centre in Hucknall on 12th July last year.

All the proceeds went to The Battle Batten fund for Freddie and Louie Dawkins.

It proved such a success that the event will run again on Saturday 1st August.

“The pain of losing Craig doesn’t get any easier,” said dad, Chris, who remains as devastated today as when the accident happened. “Following last year’s tournament, Craig’s friends formed a team called AFC Dowhan and they play in the Sunday morning league.

“It is the team that has held us together over the past year and kept us going.

“The team will be playing on the day in new kit emblazoned with Craig’s picture and is a great way of keeping his memory alive.”

It is yet undecided which good cause will share the proceeds from the day with the running of the football team but it is hoped the day will be well supported.

It is Chris’s connections with the football community that has enabled him to secure some priceless auction lots including boxing gloves signed by Carl Froch, a signed Nottingham Forest shirt, a Bournemouth shirt worn by Simon Francis, and a Derby County shirt signed by Shaun Barker.

Chris added: “We as a family have received great support and are looking forward to making it a special day for all concerned.”
