AN INDIAN restaurant in Warsop forced to close after a mouse infestation has now re-opened.

Environmental officers visited the Bengal Cottage Restaurant last month following reports of rodents in the area.

The severity of the infestation meant officers considered the premises to be a health risk and a notice was served requiring it to close for three days.

A further order was then issued by Mansfield Magistrates’ Court prohibiting the premises from trading as a food business until the health risks were resolved.

Earlier this month officers re-visited the restaurant and found the necessary work had been carried out and the court order was lifted.

Coun Mick Barton, portfolio holder for public protection, said: “On inspection the hygiene standards and the rodent infestation at this restaurant were so severe, our Environmental Health Officer was forced to take immediate action. We will never hesitate to take action such as this to address serious risks to public safety.”
