Roadworks, tailbacks and diversions for motorists across district

The closure of Kirklington Road through Rainworth is continuing to cause a nuisance as Sherwood Road has since been blocked off too forcing motorists to detour around the village bypass.

It is anticipated that the flood prevention work will be completed next week but not before staff and students at Python Hill School return on Wednesday.

“The Sherwood Road closure was always part of the original application,” said a Nottinghamshire County Council spokesman. “We could have had the diversion in place right from the start but we didn’t. We kept the road open for as long as possible before having to implement the diversion.

“We’re hoping to complete all the work by the end of next week. Surfacing work will start on Monday 9th September but will be done off-peak (9.30am to 3pm) to minimise disruption to the school.”

It is understood that fencing at the school will be removed before school starts.

The work on the A614/Kirklington Rd roundabout (known as the Lockwell Hill roundabout) has been going on for 16 weeks causing tailbacks during peak times along the A614.

“The reason for the works is to is to realign the approaches to improve traffic flow and increase capacity at the island,” added the highways spokesman.

More disruptions are expected later this week when resurafacing work on the A614 is due to begin on 7th September on the stretch between the Lockwell Hill roundabaout and White Post Farm.

Work will be done overnight with the road closed between 7pm and 6am the following day and will take up to three weeks.

For the first week both north and south-bound exits from the island will be closed at night. Beyond the first week, just the south-bound.

On Mondays and Fridays the closure won’t start until 8pm/8.30pm to cater for Center Parcs traffic on changeover days.

There will be no daytime closure but there wil be a 24-hour speed limit of 30mph.

The A617 Mansfield to Newark (Kirklington Road) will remain open at all times but controlled by traffic lights.
