Roadwork impacts on Station Hotel

The future of one of Hucknall's oldest pubs has been jeopardised by roadworks connected to the town's new inner relief road, say the landlords.

The people runing the Station Hotel pub, on Station Terrace, say access has been affected and parking spaces have been lost.

They fear the situation will get worse when the nearby railway bridge is closed by Network Rail while repairs are carried out.

Landlord Jason Birch said: “We usually have 50 per cent occupancy of our six rooms and we are lucky to fill one at the moment.

“Compared to this time last year, we are down by £6,500. If it continues to deteriorate I don’t think we will be able to survive. I can’t afford to keep losing £6,000 a month.

“There is no courtesy at all. Until we went out and challenged them we had just one letter - but not one person came to see us about it.

“After dropping my kids off at school they started digging up the car parking spaces by the side of the hotel. They took seven car parking spaces out for three days. They didn’t even tell us about it.”

Jason has been running the pub with his partner Louise Hartill, and friends Lynn and Steve Hawkridge, for just over a year.

Last week Hucknall Men’s Probus Club were forced to move from the Station Hotel for their monthly luncheon meetings because of the roadworks.

Jason said: “It is tough at the moment - you are grasping for every bit of business. We took a three year lease out.”

Contractors Tarmac say nearby Linby Road will be closed for four weeks from February 15 to allow the junction re-alignment to be completed.

They say businesses and residents have been notified in advance and every effort made to minimise disruption.
