Specific road-closures are planned for most of the day, so people are being urged to plan ahead so that this international sporting event can take place without hitches.

There will also be rolling road-closures on the race route, including side roads, which will start 15 to 20 minutes ahead of the lead rider, and will remain in place until all riders and race cars have travelled through. These will be managed by police escort vehicles.

The exact length of time these closures will be in place will depend on how dispersed the riders are. But to create the required width for the race, ‘No Waiting’ restrictions will be in operation from 8 am to 4 pm throughout the race route. These restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible after all the cyclists have passed through and all operational activities have been completed.

To avoid the rolling road -losures, the advice from race organisers is to look at the route of the race and avoid that road for about one hour either side of the predicted race passing through. An interactive map showing the full route can be found on the county council’s website at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/tourofbritain

Meanwhile, excitement is rising ahead of the big race, which will feature some of the world’s top cyclists, including Britain’s Chris Froome, four-times winner of the Tour De France, and Welshman Geraint Thomas, the winner of this year’s Tour De France.

Race director Mick Bennett said: “We are delighted that the OVO Energy Tour of Britain is returning to Nottinghamshire. It is a major international sporting event, with worldwide live television coverage and many of the world’s top professional cyclists taking part, such as Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome.

“We thank everyone in advance for their co-operation in helping to keep the route clear and for following the instructions of police, stewards and marshals wherever you are watching.”

Coun Kay Cutts, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said, “We hope the crowds turn out in force once again for the 215km route in Nottinghamshire, which is the longest stage this year, - to cheer on the stars and everyone taking part, including our very own James Shaw from Nottinghamshire.

“These top international cyclists are certain to get a big Nottinghamshire welcome, hopefully one which they will never forget. It will be a day that will live long in the memory of the thousands of people expected to line the route. It promises to be a wonderful event.”
