Revamped play area to open

A Sutton recreation ground has had its toddler play area has been refurbished and had new junior play equipment installed.

The changes to the newly-opened Stoneyford Road Recreation Ground were based upon the replies from a consultation with Students from Quarrydale Academy, St Andrews Church of England School

And members of the Skegby Neighbourhood Residents Group.

They visited the site, discussed their concerns, views and aspirations for the improvements and also took part in design sessions with council officers.

The work has been funded through s106 contributions from housing developers for improvements to open space, and grants of £30,000 from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Improvement Scheme and £49,774 from WREN.

Coun Jim Creamer, chairman of the county council’s environment and sustainability committee, said: “This is a fine example of how the Supporting Local Communities fund has been able to improve a well-used play which is much-loved by local children.

“It is great that we have been able to bring the project to fruition.”

An opening ceremony for the new play area will be held at Stoneyford Road Recreation ground at 10am on Friday.
