Residents frustrated at solar park plans in Warsop

A solar farm is going to be built on greenbelt land in the Harewood ward.
A solar farm is going to be built on greenbelt land in the Harewood ward.

More than 80 Sookholme residents plan to meet this evening (September 21) to voice their concerns over a planned solar park in their area.

They will meet at Warsop Parish Council’s monthly meeting to talk about TW Solar’s plans to put in a 40,000 panel solar park on land near Sookholme Road.

The solar park, which is a large number of solar panels set up to generate electricity, is planned to have security fencing around it and CCTV cameras.

But some residents are unhappy about the application.

Local farmer, Mark Burton, is concerned about the land being grade two agricultural space.

He said: “I just think it’s inappropriate use of what is high grade cultivation land.”

“We are producing food in these fields and they are looking to put something on that is going to completely detract it from that use.”

The meeting will take place at the Warsop Parish Council offices from 6.30pm.

The consultation period for the application ends on October 12.
