Following initial outbursts of disappointment and anger by many of the 70 residents who attended the meeting where councillors voted 6-3 in favour, feelings are still running high in the town.

“Many residents I have spoken to since the meeting remain very angry and upset over the decision,” said Reach Out Residents group chairman, Sally Wyatt, who presented an argument against the development at the meeting.

“There is a lot of bad feeling towards Coun Chris Baron who is the Hucknall West’s representative on the planning committee yet he voted in favour.

“Many feel he has failed to represent the views of the residents from his ward despite being well aware of our views.

“We just don’t understand it.”

The campign group are now preparing to reconvene to discuss the outcome and plan their next strategy.

“The sub-group is meeting within the next week to discuss further the road congestion issues,” added Sally. “The main outcry is due to the traffic fears so we will be looking at a way forward.”

The next meeting of the Reach Out group will take place on Tuesday 29th April at 6.30pm at Holgate Academy.
