Rental scheme for property owners

A new scheme has been launched to help cash-strapped home-owners to lease properties that they are struggling to sell or rent.

The new drive is available to owners of properties in Bolsover and North East Derbyshire, which have been empty for at least six months.

Owners who may be struggling to sell or rent can sign up to the scheme which would see the buildings brought back into use and offered to people at an affordable rent level, organisers said.

The scheme, a partnership project between Bolsover District Council, North East Derbyshire District Council and Groundwork Creswell, Ashfield and Mansfield, is using Government money to provide the grant-funding.

Under the scheme, once any work needed on the property has been completed, the home will be let at an affordable rent for a period of at least five years.

Work has now begun getting properties already signed up for the scheme ready for occupation, and the councils have funding left for another fifteen properties.

Bolsover District Council cabinet member for regeneration Coun Alan Tomlinson said: “We know there are properties out there that would benefit from this scheme, but we need the owners to come forward so we can help bring them back into use and ultimately help local people who are in need of good quality affordable housing.”
