Remembrance services in Mansfield and Ashfield: Ceremonies to honour our heroes

Thousands of people in Mansfield and Ashfield will remember those who sacrificed their lives fighting for their country as part of the Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

Services will take place at churches and war memorials across the area to remember those who died in conflict.

Here are events taking place near you on Sunday November 12:

Mansfield

A parade will start at Mansfield Civic Centre at 9.45 and head down Chesterfield Road and into town via West Gate and onto St Peter’s Church. After the service the parade will stop at the Old Town Hall for veterans to perform a salute of honour at the poppy display before it leads back to the Civic Centre.

Handmade Poppies have been draped over the Old Town Hall alongside messages of condolence.

Mansfield Woodhouse

A parade of around 500 servicemen and women, veterans and cadets will form at 10am at Yeoman Hill Park at the Priory Road car park entrance for a 1.2-mile route through Mansfield Woodhouse.

A full service will take place in St Edmunds Church before the parade reforms on Castle Mews and walks back to Yeoman Hill Park.

Pleasley Vale

A parade will form at Pleasley Vale War Memorial at 12.15pm and walks to St Chads for a service at 12.50pm.

Warsop

The Warsop Parish Remembrance Day parade and service will start at 10.20am at Warsop ex-Servicemen’s on Carr Lane. This will be followed by a service at the cenotaph next to St Peters & St Pauls Parish Church.

The route of the parade has been changed to include the newly named Robert Bye Way, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery during World War One. The parade will start at Warsop ex-servicemans club, then turn left onto Robert Bye Way and follow the A60 to the cenotaph.

Clipstone

The parade will form at the Cricket Pavilion on Church Road. The route will be along Church Road and around the Church Circle arriving in front of All Saints Church where there will be a service.

Afterwards, the parade will reform on Church Road and then march the short route to Clipstone Social Club car park where it will be dismissed at the monument for the laying of wreaths.

Forest Town

The parade will form up in the car park of Forest Town Arena at 10.15am before marching around the village. There will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph and then a service at St Albans Church.

Huthwaite

A church service will take place at 10am at All Saints Church on Common Road, before a parade at 10.30am which will finish at the cenotaph.

Sutton

The parade starts at Portland Square at 9.25, moving on to St Mary’s Church and proceeds to the war memorial at Sutton Cemetery, where an outdoor service will be held, which includes the laying of wreaths.

Kirkby

A service will take place at 9.45am at St. Thomas’ Church, Kingsway, and a parade will finish at the town’s war memorial.

Stanton Hill and Skegby

Services will begin at 10.30am starting at All Saints Church in Stanton Hill and St Andrew’s Church in Skegby.

Selston

A service will be held at the war memorial on Alfreton Road from 9.30am.

Jacksdale

The village will play host to two separate services - one at 10.15am in Ironville and one at 10.30am at the memorial on Main Street.

Hucknall

From 10.30am until noon, adjacent to the Market Place. The ceremony will be lead by the Newstead Brass, from the market place to the war memorial.
