Recycle unwanted electrical items

Every year people in Britain throw away more than one million tonnes of electrical items, much of it ending in landfill and proving hazardous to the environment.

Now Veolia Environmental Services, Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste management contractor, is asking them to take the items to any of the county’s fourteen recycling centres.

Kevin Parker, regional communications manager for Veolia, said: “By reducing the amount of electrical waste potentially going to landfill that could have been recycled / reused, it in turn means that less needs to be manufactured. Every time any electrical item is recycled, you’ll be making a real difference.”

As well as large and small electrical appliances, the recycling centres accept textiles, scrap metals, car batteries, garden waste, wood and timber, soil and rubble, used engine oil, fluorescent tubes and low energy bulbs.
