MANSFIELD’S star swimmer Rebecca Adlington qualified for tomorrow evening’s 800 metres freestyle final in style on Thursday morning.
The defending Olympic champion breezed through her heat, winning in 8:21:78 to qualify fastest for the final.
Adlington, who claimed a bronze medal in Sunday’s 400 metres, will be bidding for her fourth Olympic medal following two golds in Beijing four years ago.
She didn’t race in yesterday’s relay to concentrate on her favoured 800 metres frestyle.
Afterwards she told the BBC: “After what happened in the 400 metres heat I wasn’t going to take any chance and I gave it my all. I was really pleased with that.”
She also praised the ‘deafening’ support in the Aquatics Centre.
