READER LETTER: Guide dogs - Can you volunteer to look after animals?

I hope some of your readers might be able to help.

Guide Dogs is urgently looking for training dog volunteer boarders who ideally live in the Farnsfield, Blidworth and Rainworth areas.

Our qualified trainers work with the dogs in the day but we need people who can look after the dogs in the evening, overnight and at weekends. This is for a 12-week period at a time. We would collect the dog in the morning and return in the evening. We have dogs arriving in July so urgently need volunteers as soon as possible.

This is a really important and a critical stage of training, where the dog is trained in readiness for matching with a person who is blind or visually impaired. Due to their intensive training schedule the dogs do not require the same amount of walks and exercise as a pet dog.

This is a great chance for people who would like the company or the opportunity of having a dog for a short period of time without the usual ties. All equipment and full training and support is provided.

If anyone thinks they could help, or know someone who could, please could they get in touch.

For an informal chat about what’s involved, please call Dave or Wendy on 0845 372 7424, email [email protected] or visit www.guidedogs.org.uk
