The road is closed due to roadworks between A614 and the Rainworth Bypass, with queueing on surrounding routes including A614 through Farnsfield, A60 through Ravenshead and on Mansfield Rd through Rainworth.

Peter Goode, Nottinghamshire County Council’s traffic manager, said: “The A617 is closed for nine days while major resurfacing works are taking place,.”

Work began on Saturday and will continue throughout the week, both day and night, until next Sunday when the work is due to be completed,” he added.

“If all runs smoothly, the road should reopen before the morning rush hour next Monday (16th March).

“Unfortunately, because of the nature of the work it has not been possible to carry them out without a full closure.

“There have been signs in the area flagging up the closure for several weeks and formal diversion of traffic is via the A614 and A60.

Drivers are being encouraged to seek alternative routes including A616 and A6075 to the north and to allow extra time for their journey whilst this essential work is carried out.”
