Rainworth family threatened with iron bar in their home

DETECTIVES in Rainworth are hoping the community can help them find those responsible for an assault in which man was hit with an iron bar.

At about 9.40pm on Thursday 28th March, two men broke into a house in South Avenue.

The home owner, a 56-year-old man, was upstairs with his wife and three-year-old granddaughter at the time.

When he went downstairs to confront the offenders they hit him over the head with a metal object, believed to be an iron bar.

The men, who were both white, thought to be in their early 20s and wearing dark clothing, then fled the property.

The victim was taken to King’s Mill Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

Pc John Wilson, of Newark CID, said: “If you were in the South Avenue area around the time of the incident and saw anything or anyone out of the ordinary please call us.

“Although this appears to be an isolated incident we would advise residents to remain vigilant.”
