Rainworth over 50’s club - Mr R. Murphy welcomed 79 members to their meeting on Tuesday week at the Rainworth Miners Welfare. Mr C. Dodsworth was the MC for dancing and the spot waltz winners were Mrs M. Jones and Mrs F. Harrison. Serving refreshments to the members were Mrs E. Baxter, Mrs P. Seed and Mrs B. Murphy. Mr A. Higgins called the bingo and the ticket sellers were Mrs A. Plastow and Mrs O. Parkin. The MC for dominoes was Mr J. Saunders and the winners were Mr B. Mould and Mrs C Mould. The competition winner was Mrs E. Haggarty. The weekly raffle was held with the prizes donated by the club (3), and Mesdames, Blackwell, Murphy, Dodsworth, Biggs, Richards, Newberry, Chamberlain, Dean, Prior, Higgins, Dennett, Maggio, Brown, Creasey, Purdey, Poyser, Corden, Jones, Clarke, and Baxter. There are currently membership opportunities available, anyone interested please call in on Tuesday afternoons.

Third Rainworth Brownies - On Friday Brownies took part in the Winter Olympics. They made toboggans with lolly sticks and drinking straws. The pixie’s sledge travelled the furthest on the toboggan run. Brownies made ski runs with icing and biscuits and sculpted ice dancers out of tinfoil. Whilst in the snow Brownies played the egg game from Iceland, they had a snowball fight and played ice hockey before they went home. The exhibition in Mansfield Museum in March is to celebrate the Big Brownie Birthday -Brownies are 100 this year it’s hoped lots of people will visit the exhibition between 1st and 29th March and remember the fun they had as a Brownie

Methodist Church The weekly Slimming World group met on Tuesday with the Weight Watchers group and Rainworth Leisure Artist group meeting on Wednesday. The Bible study and Fellowship group met at the home of Judith and Mick Daykin on Thursday evening. The Friday uniformed Brownie and Guide groups met on Friday evening and on Saturday the Mansfield Artist group met and the regular coffee morning also taking place. On Sunday morning Philip Holmes led the service which included readings from Mick Daykin. Flowers decorating the church were donated by Connie and Alan Mosley and welcoming church members and friends to the service was Christine Daniel. The Sunday school group were supervised by Vanessa and Fiona Lewin and Alan Mosley and Margaret Toon played the music accompanying the service. For their evening service members visited Farnsfield Methodists for the Section service led by the Rev’d David Greenwood. The next Messy Church is on Wednesday, February 26th, 3.30pm—5.15pm, all welcome.

SS Simon and Jude’s - Morning Prayer services on both Tuesday and Thursday and also Thursdays Holy Communion last week were led by the Rev’d Hazel Robinson. The Rev’d Robinson and Stephanie Smart led Thursdays Vestry hour and the music group ‘Simon Folk’ rehearsed as usual on Thursday evening. The regular weekly coffee mornings were held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings and on Sunday morning the early morning Holy Communion service was led by the Rev’d Robinson. Later Morning Prayer was led by Stephanie Smart with the Rev’d Tyack giving the sermon. Gordon Foster played the music for the service and prayers were led by Leila Southcott. There were readings from Caroline Rafferty, Maureen Garner and Stuart Brown. Church members are looking forward to the next Messy Church which is on Wednesday, February 26th, 3.30pm—5.15pm, at the Rainworth Methodist church, all welcome. A splendid effort was made by church members Sharon and Robert Winders who took part in the Big Snore Framework event in Mansfield. The couple raised £350 for the event. Celia House group meets on alternate Tuesdays 10.00-11.30am, all welcome.

St Andrews - The Morning Prayer services were held on Monday and Wednesday led by the Rev’d Hazel Robinson who also led Wednesday’s morning Communion. The monthly Talk, Tea and fellowship meeting was held on Monday afternoon followed by a short service led by the Rev’d Robinson and Marilyn Brown. Followed by a short service in the chapel Vestry Hour is a time when people who want to book weddings, ask for bans to be read, book baptisms etc. or who would just like to pop in and talk to the clergy etc. It is held at St Andrew’s on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and this week was led by Angela Penny. On Saturday evening church members and friends enjoyed an evening of Food, Folk Music and Fun from around the British Isles. The event helped raise over £400 for church funds with the Simon folk group entertaining.

ST Mary’s - Sunday mornings Holy Communion service was led by the Rev’d Hazel Robinson assisted by the Rev’d Clare Tyack and Stephen Fox. The Rev’d Robinson later read from the New Testament and the Rev’d Tyack gave the sermon. Readings from the Old Testament were from John Robinson and Stephen Fox led prayers. Sharon Winders read from the Gospel and Gordon Foster played the music for the service.

Methodist Church The Artist group met at the church on Tuesday with Karen O’Hara leading a prayer meeting Thursday evening. The service on Sunday morning was ‘All Age Worship’ and took the form of a local arrangement with members of the congregation taking part in the service. There were readings from Patricia Stewart, and Tracy Long with Vanessa Crane playing the music. Church members were welcomed by Marian Jarratt. For their evening service members visited Farnsfield Methodists for the Section service led by the Rev’d David Greenwood.
