Radio presenter organises fundraising ball to help Corah charity

Mansfield 103.2 DJ Katie Trinder, who has organised a fundraising ball to support the charity campaign of Lisa and Carl Slaney.

Now a Purple Ball is to be held to raise funds and awareness of the charity that is desperately trying to increase research into, and find a cure for, the killer condition.

Mitochondrial disease attacks the body cells and prevents them producing energy for vital organs and muscles. Corah was diagnosed in December 2014 and, after seven months of dreadful deterioration, she died.

The ball has been organised by popular Mansfield 103.2 presenter Katie Trinder, who is a friend of Corah’s mum and dad, Lisa and Carl Slaney, of Victoria Road, Kirkby.

“It broke my heart to see the effect the disease had on Corah and her family,” said Katie, 40. “Lisa asked me to host a fundraising concert, RaiseTheRoof4Corah, that she organised last year and through that, I was asked to become a patron of the Children’s Mitochondrial Disease Network charity.

“I wanted to do something to help and so I decided to organise the Purple Ball, which will give people the chance to get dressed up and have fun while raising money for the charity.”

Katie, who grew up in Kirkby, presented the breakfast show on Mansfield 103.2 for many years. She is now back there, presenting a Sunday slot, after stints with BFBS Radio, the broadcasting service for the British Forces, and also Lincs FM, where her claims to fame included organising a successful concert for none other than Adele.

Her radio career is taking something of a back-seat present, however, because she has just helped to set up a new software company, called Dalmatian Systems, which is based in Mansfield. It has developed software that specialises in career management.

Dalmatian, of which Katie is marketing director, has made the Children’s Mitochondrial Disease Network its chosen charity for the year, and the Purple Ball is the first major event.

The ball takes place at Portland College on Friday, May 19. Guests will begin their evening with a cocktail, called a Corah-Royal, and then tuck into a four-course meal, followed by entertainment from Mansfield band, Ginny Brown and the Collective. There will also be a few more surprises, yet to be confirmed.
