Quarrydale Academy students to visit Nottingham Trent University for National Science and Engineering week

Students from Sutton’s Quarrydale Academy will visit Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst Campus on Wednesday as part of National Science and Engineering Week.

Pupils will get to see university life first hand, and the visit will include a tour of the animal and equine units.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Quarrydale has visited the Brackenhurst Campus, which is home to the university’s School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences.

Kim Dellar, work-related learning co-ordinator at Quarrydale Academy, said: “For the last five years pupils from Quarrydale Academy have spent a day at Brackenhurst learning about further study in land based subjects.

“Every year at least two students out of the year ten group go on to study at the campus when they leave Quarrydale.”

A former Quarrydale Academy student, Charlotte Bates, visited the campus last year before joining the Subsidiary Diploma in Horse Management in September 2013.

She said “I enjoyed the visits to Brackenhurst and found them very useful in helping me to decide what I would like to do after leaving school. I am enjoying my course and really like the mix of practical and theory sessions. All staff are really friendly and helpful.”
